$324 Million Property Tax Collection Begins Today

Taxpayers are encouraged to pay online through the Tax Collector's secure and convenient website, MonroeTaxCollector.com.

Key West, Florida – Monroe County Tax Collector Sam Steele announced the collection of 2021 property tax begins today. The 2021 tax roll has been certified by the Monroe County Property Appraiser for a total amount of $323,875,574.09, up $12,307,253.65 million from 2020. Steele’s office mailed 55,174 bills to Monroe County property owners this week.

“Our office offers several features to improve the efficiency and convenience of paying property taxes online,” said Steele. “For example, if you own multiple properties, you have the ability to select those properties and pay the corresponding property tax bills in a single transaction.”

Tax Collector Steele also reminds property owners to save money by taking advantage of early payment discounts. Customers who pay in November receive a 4% discount. A 3% discount is available in December, 2% discount in January, and 1% discount in February. There is no discount available for payments made in March.

Customers who pay online are encouraged to use their bank account (E-Check), a free online payment method. Customers who pay by credit card must pay a convenience fee of $2.50 or 2.5%, whichever is greater. The convenience fee is not retained by the Monroe County Tax Collector and is paid directly to the credit card vendor, Grant Street.

Property owners may also pay with a check drawn from a U.S. bank and made payable to Sam C. Steele, CFC. Payments must be mailed to:

The deadline to pay 2021 property tax is March 31, 2022. Property taxes become delinquent April 1, 2022.
